CODE OF CONDUCT

As a club, we hold ourselves and our members to a high standard and we expect this to be maintained at all times. In signing up to become a Huskie, members agree to uphold our Code of Conduct at all times. All affiliates are expected to uphold our standards and failure to comply could result in disciplinary action where appropriate, and in some cases, dismissal from the club. We reserve the right to determine what is, and is not, acceptable behaviour within our Huskies community,

A GOOD CLUB...

Treats people with respect and dignity at all times.
Shows humility in victory and grace in defeat.
Works together to create a positive and welcoming club environment.
Encourages a healthy environment, where skill development, enjoyment and teamwork are promoted.

A GOOD CLUB NEVER...

Tolerates abusive, threatening, or intimidating behaviour towards anyone.
Challenges, or encourages others to challenge, the decision of any official. Concerns are shared appropriately.
Uses inappropriate, derogatory or discriminatory language towards anyone.
Puts a 'win' above the safety and wellbeing of its members.

A GOOD COACH...

Respects the game and everyone involved in it.
Encourages fair play and a sporting attitude amongst their players.
Remembers that young people play for fun and develop, above all else.
Maintains their integrity and discipline at all times and encourages their players to do the same.
Encourages a healthy environment where enjoyment and teamwork are the priority.

A GOOD COACH NEVER...

Allows any players to abuse the officials or the opposition.
Challenges or disputes decisions made by the officials during a game. Concerns are shared appropriately.
Allows behaviour from any stakeholder that does not contribute positively to the development of their players.
Acts in a manner that might intimidate or frighten their players.
Takes a 'win at all costs' attitude; they place the safety and wellbeing of their players above all else.

A GOOD PLAYER...

Demonstrates respect for their coaches and officials at all times.
Treats their team-mates and opposition with respect and dignity.
Encourages fair play and a sporting attitude, both on and off the court.
Remains disciplined throughout the game and sets a good example for all players.
Remembers that enjoyment and development is more important than the result of the game.

A GOOD PLAYER NEVER...

Acts violently towards any player or official or engages in offensive language towards them.
Challenges or disputes decisions made by the officials or coaches. Concerns are shared with their coach.
Tolerates foul language from spectators, coaches, players or teammates.
Bullies, intimidates or abuses the opposition, or team-mates.
Puts a 'win' above the safety and wellbeing of team-mates.

A GOOD PARENT/CARER...

Puts the enjoyment and development of their child first, before the result of the game.
Offers positive comments, instead of criticism and encourages teamwork and a sporting attitude.
Remembers that effort is more important than outcome.
Treats the officials and coaches with respect.
Maintains their discipline and acts as a good role model to all players and spectators.

A GOOD PARENT/CARER NEVER...

Undermines the coach or officials. They determine the play, parents/carers do not.
Criticises, or verbally abuses any of the officials, coaches or players.
Engages in foul or abusive language towards any child, including their own.
Tolerates other stakeholders engaging in foul or abusive behaviour; they report it to the relevant authority.
Promotes a 'win at all costs' attitude; the safety and wellbeing of young people is paramount.

A GOOD SPECTATOR...

Puts the wellbeing of the players, coaches and officials first.
Respects all stakeholders including all players, officials and staff.
Understands that they're not in a position to influence the game and respects and accepts the decisions of officials and coaches.
Acts as a role model for the players and does not engage in any abusive or offensive behaviour.

A GOOD SPECTATOR NEVER...

Engages in any abusive, hateful or discriminatory language towards the officials, coaches or players.
Challenges the decision of the officials or coaches or interferes with the game at any point.
Tolerates abusive behaviour or language from players or coaches. They ensure it is reported to the appropriate authority.
Forgets that players are here to enjoy basketball and develop their skills. Winning is not everything!
