• Teams do not have to pay an upfront registration or league-entry fees which removes the financial pressure from clubs and makes it easier for teams to join.

• A flexible approach could allow a group of friends, former players, work colleagues or recreational players to form a team without needing to be part of a club or find several hundred pounds to enter.

 

• Players are responsible for their own affordable registration and participation fees — and those fees are all a player ever needs to pay to take part.

​

• Teams would not need to take on the costs or administrative burden normally associated with entering a traditional league:

​

-No team affiliation necessary;

-No team-entry fees;

-No licence fees of any kind - there are none;

-No separate player insurance - every registered player is insured through TDBL;

-No managing a home venue;

-No individual court bookings;

-No arranging officials;

-No league administration;

-No extensive travel to away fixtures as all fixtures are at a central venue.

 

• It provides a clear pathway from junior league (Next Gen) to senior league (Game On) which gives the league a built-in way to retain players moving out of junior basketball. Players approaching adulthood often leave the sport because there is no suitable next step between junior basketball and established senior teams. Game On provides that transition opportunity for:

-U16 players graduating out of Next Gen (eligibility and safeguarding consideration also in place for any players under 18 moving between the two leagues)

-U18 players;

-college players;

-university students;

-players who are not yet ready for senior National League basketball.

• It provides a safe pathway from recreational basketball into competition. Game On creates a natural progression for adults who currently attend recreational basketball sessions but are keen to push themselves further.  It removes the issue of National League players dominating a league and creating a daunting environment, especially for those who come to the game later and have little to no experience. Such an opportunity could improve player retention and encourage adults to stay involved in competitive basketball for longer.

• Game On is designed to support adults with work and family commitments. Many adults want to play competitive basketball but cannot commit to travelling every week. Players would know they are being asked to attend only three organised meets across three months with breaks for the key periods of Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays.
